Absence

Alex found himself suspended in mid air in a dark space. By now he was used to this and waited for things to light up. When nothing happened, he looked down and saw a massive tennis court below him. He could feel something behind him. He attempted to look round, but before he could turn, the force which held him broke. He fell onto the tennis court, and was flung over the net towards the other side. As he hit the ground on that side, he felt his ankle snap again. As he flew back towards the net, he held his arms out to the side, attempting to slow himself down, as if it would really help. It worked, he suddenly noticed he was decellerating. He landed on his broken ankle beside the net and lay still.

After a few minutes, Alex came to his senses. His ankle was hurting badly, and felt even worse when he tried to move, but the thought of the creatures lurking in the darkness around him forced him to endure the harsh pain. He dragged himself towards a button by the net and pressed it. Immedietly he heard noises above. Looking up he saw spiked elevators above him. He pulled himself to the side of the field using the net and managed to catch a crossbow and a clip of darts. He heard a gargling sound behind him and turned his head, only to have his arm hit by the electricity of the Slave's Lightning bolt. He raised his crossbow and fired a dart into it. No sooner had it it the ground than another bolt of electricity surged through him. He no longer had the strength to aim his crossbow but simply dragged it behind him as he attempted to pull himself to cover. More lightning bolts hit him, each one doing its damage. Alex was not sure how long he could take it. Somehow he managed to struggle to his knees and lift the bow in front of him. He fired at the only slave he could see, but missed. He dropped the crossbow and began to collapse. As more lightning hit him, he tried to struggle out of the way. He heard something in front of him and looked up, as a slave's claws sliced their way straight into his shoulder. He managed to move backwards as it went for his throat. The moment he moved the slave began to charge up. Another one noticed him and began preparing to fire. Alex no longer fought, but simply knelt, watching them charge up and fire the deadly bolt straight into his face. He fell backwards into the pit behind him and hit his head on the ground below.

An image of Murther's face came into Alex's mind, laughing his head off in front of a screen showing a scene within halfquake, where two slaves roamed what looked like a tennis court. In a hole near them, lay a body, covered in red blood and not moving. Suddenly Murther stopped laughing, and instead spoke quietly. "So, this one is definitely strong enough, again he surprises me by his powerful fight for survival." On the screen the body had begun moving. Then it faded out and Alex found himself back on the tennis court with a sudden surge of energy.

He jumped out of the hole and grabbed the arms of the nearest slave, forcing its claws straight into its chest. Before it even hit the ground, Alex had grabbed the crossbow and shot the other slave. He slaughtered the remaining creatures and watched the platforms rise. A hole appeared near him and he walked into it.

He was now in a room with green pipes running along the walls. He followed the passage round and ended up in a room with two slaves and a hand pointing upwards. Quickly he climbed the ladder on the painting of the hand and jumped through the gap, as two lightning bolts hit him. He jumped onto a platform which was beginning to rise up a tall shaft. He saw a hole in the wall which the elevator stopped at and jumped into it. He managed to jump from the ledge inside to another. Below he saw the two slaves looking up at him, but he was out of range of their lightning attacks. He walked into an alcove and pressed a switch inside and heard a large explosion behind him in the main shaft. Upon investigation he noticed that one of the slave had been completely destroyed by a bolt of energy from somewhere in the ceiling.

He made his way back to the elevator and caught it as it went upwards. Another switch caused the death of the other slave. Alex waited for the elevator and went down to the room where the charred remains of the slaves were. In the holes they had been standing in were switches. Alex quickly jumped down and activated both of them. The trapdoor in the center of the room opened and Alex jumped down into it. In the new horizontal shaft, he found a crossbow. He crept out at the end and made his way up the ramp. He came up to a gap with boxes at the entrance. As he approached, one of them broke up. Slaves came running out at him. He shot them and took several clips from the platform. Also, he activated a switch. He repeated this performance with the other alcoves in the ramp, eventually eliminating all of the slaves and opening a shielded shaft. Alex killed the slave inside and then pressed the switch. He was forced upwards. Once he was upstairs, he was able to snipe the remaining slaves, and escape the area through a low-grav pit in one of the pillars.
