Patience

The word sounded like more problems. Alex recalled what the sadist had said all the way back in Pestilence.

"Patience is called Patience, because you need about...20 minutes of...patience. In this time, try to use it wisely." Alex tried to think of ways in which to use this time. He had a look around at the surroundings. He was in what looked like some kind of train station. Two benches stood against the walls on the platform. He walked up to them, thinking he could rest for a few minutes. He sat on the nearest bench.

Alex jumped up, the moment he had sat down, he felt electricity flowing through his body. For a moment, he thought slaves were attacking him. He looked round, but saw no-one. He sat back down, and felt the shock again. This time, he realized what it was. He checked the benches, and found out that they were connected to a power supply. "Damn. Looks like they want be to stay awake for this time." He looked at the floor. "Ah well, screw them." He went into the corner and attempted to sleep. A phone rang near him.

Alex jumped for the phone and snatched it off the hook. A voice screamed "Yes?" down the phone, then it continued. "Oh, yes, I called you, right. You waiting for the train? You know generally speaking, the train usually comes 10 minutes too late." The sadist hung up. Alex tried to dial a number but got a message instead. "Sorry, this line is currently...err...dead. Please try again in a few minutes." Alex slammed the phone back into place. A voice came over the loudspeaker. "Take care of platform number 487, train passes." Ale watched the train go past. He then resumed his exploring the station.

He came across some dispenser. The message written on it said "Drugs. Feel like a bird for 10 seconds." Alex thought about it for a moment. "ah well, not much point to my clean life any more." He consumed one of the capsules from the machine.

He suddenly felt extremely light. He saw a gap in the glass separating the two platforms. He jumped for it, and found himself practically flying. He managed to get through the gap in the glass and to the platform the other side. The effects wore off and he fell to the ground. On this side he could see a TV screen. He walked up to it and pressed the button to activate it. The screen went black, and came up with a white outline picture. "Victims. This is your way to travel." Alex looked at the picture. It showed the trains Alex had seen going along the tracks. "Some say it is Uncomfortable, Unsafe, and Black and White." Alex walked off, but was back later to see a whole line of victims get crushed by BJ again. Meanwhile the voice on the phone spoke to him again. "Already bored?" and a few minutes later, sang the Suicide is Painless song. Alex gave up answering the phone.

"Don't you think you are wasting time?" Alex could not find the source of this new voice, although it sounded like the broadcasting system again. "Wouldn't it be better to just end this life?" Alex stood stubbornly in the life cell trying to ignore the voices. "Oh, I see. You're one of those strong types." The voice stopped. Alex felt the floor shake. The life cell broke, the death cell collapsed a moment later. Alex was left on the platform. The voice rang loud in his ears. "Train station simulation terminated." The station began to collapse around him. He fell through the floor into darkness.

"So now, take a minute and think about it. Why the hell should we have a train station? Well, because we want to torture you, but we don't need any transport system. We are anywhere and everywhere. This is just an example of what life really is. Pointless and, sadistic." Alex felt his feet hit solid ground. The sword of sadism stood in front of him.

As Alex picked up the sword and pulled it out of the floor, the walls slid out of place. Slaves charged up to fire, the amount there would kill him regardless of the sword in his hands. He ran for the only escape route. The slaves followed. He turned the corner into a dead end. A single switch stood out from the rest of the wall. He pressed it. A spiked wall broke away from the opposite end of the corridor and started towards him. A slave attemptedto get through to him and was impaled upon the spikes. Another was torn apart as he was trapped between the moving wall and the corner. Alex watched as the wall came closer. The spikes looked sharp...

Alex opened his eyes once more. The spikes were either side of his head, leaving barely enough room for him to move. He forced himself through a gap in the wall the moment it opened. A slave round this corner was not a problem. He jumped onto a platform over some lava. It began rotating and slaves shot at him from both sides. He made a desperate leap onto the platform and fell headfirst into the portal. He emerged the other side to find that his sword had been replaced with a crossbow again. It was another questions room.

The first question was a simple answer of A, the second was B. Alex pressed B again one the third, then stared at the fourth. "You in a cinema watching a movie. In one scene three million people get killed. Do you: A take notes; B Laugh. Alex attempted a guess at this one and pressed A. The wall ahead of him broke and three slaves stood out of range to see him. He had to snipe all of them to leave the room. It took all his concentration to be able to hold the bow steady as he fired it. The floor slid out from below him.
