Battlestar Galactica Season 1 & 2 (2003-2005)

Well, what can I say. The pilot sucks ... you right in and it's really, really hard to stop watching. Basically most of humanity gets killed by Cylons, robots that were created by humans. Only 50,000 or so survive and try to flee, and this is where the real fun begins. The space scenes look absolutely stunning, the characters are very believable and the story is intriguing. What more do you want? More seasons, that's what.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

I bought this movie because it was discounted. I hate boxing, so I expected a very, very bad movie. But it actually surprised me. I believe Hilary Swank played very well. Eastwood was good, but I had the feeling that Freeman acted a tad bit better. But overall a movie I strongly recommend, also because I could related very well with Hilary, as far as having goals in your life goes ...

Thank You For Smoking (2005)

I really thought the main actor did a great job. The dialogs are witty and the arguments for smoking are thought provoking. It just leaves a dull aftertaste, after all there wasn't really any character development, maybe the son's character, but... no.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

I watched the trailer for this movie a few months ago and thought the trailer was weak and I believed it was some kind of trashy family movie, well, for the whole family. But now that I've watched it it is a lot more than that. Very deep, funny and maybe even depressing. And character development en masse. Get it and watch it.

5/5

Children of Men (2006)

First of all, you can't tell me you actually care about one character in this movie. They are flat like a piece of paper. TERRIBLE casting, ALL actors in this movie are absolutely horrible. Second, the surroundings are great and believable, they're probably the best of the movie. Third, there is a chase scene where they uh, like push a car down a hill, and the hunters are like, just standing around, then getting in a car themselves, and when they are like 5 meters behind them, the hunted get into their car and slowly drive away. Was this supposed to be serious? Fourth, what the hell is up with all the random killings? Rebells and wanna-be-hippies everywhere, it just can't be taken seriously. They even kill off main characters, which isn't really a spoiler because you don't care about those characters in the first place. It's like HEADSHOT, meh, okay. Who's next? At one point some old guy in his shed fires up his stereo and the sound of Aphex Twin reaps through your ears - that's why the movie gets 1/5 and not just 0. Overall, the idea is good, I like predictions of the future, especially dark and creepy ones, but this movie was just horribly executed, and mainly because of the actors and the senseless and lifeless dialogs. Do yourself a favor and whenever you see DVDs of this movie in stores, burn them. Oh yeah, and the movie received a 8.1/10 on imdb ...

Click (2006)

Adam Sandler again. You gotta be cautious because Sandler movies can hit you slightly below the belt, which often hurts and you lose brain cells. This movie however is just plain brilliant. Did you watch the trailer? Good, because the trailer only maybe shows the first half of the film. The second half of the film is just awesome. There are very few pretty low jokes, but they can be overlooked. There's a pretty good David Hasselhoff in here as well. In total, a funny movie with a very good message, which I took very personally myself.

Over the Hedge (2006)

Seen Toy Story 1+2, Bug's Life, Final Fantasy Spirits Within, Robots, Ice Age and all the other animated cartoons? Well, get ready for Over The Hedge! In my opinion it's one of the greatest animations I've ever seen, not only because of the great voice actors (Bruce Willis, Nick Nolte, William Shatner, Steve Carell), but also because of the top notch quality of the animations, models, surroundings, humor, story - it just works. Watch it!

5/5

Mission Impossible 3 (2006)

MI:1 was this little agent movie with cool action scenes. MI:2 was John Woo's version of superman. MI:3 is somewhere in between. Cool and entertaining stuff though. Not a lot to think about, but something to sit back and have fun with.

4/5

Finding Neverland (2004)

Finding who? Nemo? Oh, Neverland! Well, who might that be, I wonder. Oh, I guess it's not a person, but a land. Someone called Peter Pan lives there, or so the stories tell us. Yeah. Well, apparently Johnny Depp invented that place, along all characters, and Dustin Hoffman at first was against it. Yeah. But in the end it's all good. The best thing on this DVD were the outtakes where Peter Pan (played by a girl) was flying against the wall several times. Brilliant!

4/5

The Illusionist (2006)

The movie starts great, nice characters, good actors, thrilling magician/illusionist shows. But honestly, the end tries to reveal the truth behind things that just won't work, thus making the film fall flat on its face. There are so many questions unanswered that it's better not watching the movie at all. Then again, Edward Norton makes it worth watching nevertheless. And the movie plays in early Vienna!

4/5

The Prestige (2006)

It's nice to see David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. The story is pretty good, most questions find answers and even though the movie is slightly predictable, it's definitely worth watching. I find it interesting that The Prestige and The Illusionist appeared (haha) at the same time, making it inevitable to compare both with each other. In my opinion The Prestige wins. But I suppose you will have to watch both and see for yourself.

Mmm Mmm. More movie goodness, with a chocolate center.

Wait... what?

I've actually seen some of these, and I agree with almost everything you said about them.

Million Dollar Baby was an amazing movie, not really my favorite genre, but it still managed to keep me watching, and of course Clint Eastwood is a freakin' genius.

Little Miss Sunshine may be my favorite movie of the year, and I would recomend it to anyone with a shred of humor in them. The characters were all endearing, if dysfunctional, and the jokes were just cynical enough to keep me rolling around on the flood, laughing.

I decided to watch Click mainly because it featured Adam Sandler, who has been making me laugh since The Waterboy, and Christopher Walken, who has be freaking me out ever since... ever. I didn't really expect much of this movie, I figured it would be mainly a comic venture.
Boy was I wrong. Click was more than just comedy, it made you think, and it made you feel.
And laugh. A lot.

Mission Impossible Three. Damn you Tom Cruise! DAMN YOU! The first MI was a great move, and the second sucked quite hard, so why does the third actually have to be pretty good. STOP TAUNTING ME!

Since I didn't see The Illusionist, I can't compare it to the Prestige, but I can still say that The Prestige was a great movie. Plenty of plot twists, some action, suspense, and hats. Lots of hats. I liked it quite a bit, and the ending managed to suprise me, which is not an easy feat with todays movies.

Also, was Children of Men really that bad? I was thinking of renting it, but now I'm not so sure...

Sorry for jacking your journal entry, you can have it back now. ;-P

If I didn't want people jacking my journal entry I wouldn't allow comments, so no need to apologize. Thanks for the comment!

And yes, Children of Men is that bad. I watched it with my girlfriend and we both agreed that it was one of the worst and senseless movies ever made. Then again, as I said, on imdb it received a pretty high score (8.1), which means a lot of people voted high because either they were tricked by friends into saying the movie is a miracle, or they are simply blind and deaf...

Nice reviews, as always! *g* ^^

of the descriped pieces... Well and i agree with it.
But some movies more on the to-watch-list ;)
