I moaned, as I lay uncomfortable on the ground, half of the broken crossbow stabbing into my back. I rolled awkwardly, in an effort to get my self up, but succeeding only on flipping over to my stomach. Through all this a dull buzz accompanied me in the darkness. My anger got the better of me.
"Would you just piss off and leave me alone, what did I ever do to you?" I shouted at it.
My rage didn't sway the buzzing at all. It kept going, ignoring me, as most things in this world did. I pushed myself off the ground, throwing the half of the crossbow to the side, it was no longer any use to me. I took in my surroundings. Much like everything else this room was black, featureless except for the familiar TV sitting in the middle. A grey light was shining down on it, creating an almost "holy" look to it. Or unholy, whatever tickles your fancy. I had a certain apprehension in touching the TV after what happened last time, but I knew deep down, that I wasn't going anywhere unless I tuned it in. Perhaps it wouldn't be as painful as last time… I started towards it, nerves starting to get the better of me. I clutched the tuning knob in my hand and with a nervous look around, started to tune it. For a while there was a long nothing, besides static of course. I was getting anxious, waiting for something to appear suddenly, or the TV to blow up and take off one of my hands. I watched the static, it was almost hypnotic, twirling and gliding randomly across the screen. My admiration of this didn't last long as finally a picture started to form.
Slowly but surely a new scene started to take place on the TV.
There was… green… a lot of green, wait it's grass, there seemed to be lots of small grey shapes, all the same size, some had crosses on top of them… graves maybe? Yes it seems like they were. Something else of in the distance as well… I couldn't tell what it was from this angle, but it seems like a large object… a building of some sort maybe. The picture clarified itself with each turn of the knob, finally until the knob seemed to lock into place. I tried twisting in the opposite direction, but to no avail, it was stuck. Well it was obvious that I was looking at some sort of cemetery, but what did it have to do with anything. If only I could remember anything before I got here, maybe I could make sense of this… Wait, didn't I see something like this the last time I saw a TV? Yeah… There was that person who sounded a lot like me, he was standing at a large tombstone. Perhaps this cemetery has something to do with it? I squinted in an effort to make out some more details.
Frustrated, I sat as close as possible to the TV. I shuddered; man it was cold in here. Wait… I've never been really cold or hot in this place before… so why now? There was a breeze… it must be coming from behind the TV. I got up to go and investigate. No it wasn't coming from behind the TV… I went back to the front; again the soft cool breeze was felt again. I held my hand up to the TV. Was it coming from the TV? I edged closer, slowly reaching for the TV. My hand slowly, but surely went up to and through the screen. I looked at my hand bemused, I was inside the TV. Somewhat excited by this discovery and the fact that I could go somewhere else where the majority of things are not black and white, I crawled through.
I glanced back over my shoulder. No longer was I in a bleak and dismal world… I was in a bleak and dismal graveyard. Well it was sort of an improvement. I walked over to examine a gravestone. There were no markings, except for a rather large RIP. I shuddered, I hopped that it wasn't my fate to end up in this cemetery. I looked around the rows of gravestones; every single one seemed to be the same. They continued off into the distance, until… there seemed to be one off by itself. Perhaps that one was of some importance. I headed off in that direction. It took me a few minutes but I finally made it. I stared in awe at it. It seemed to have grown as I had made my way here. It now was large enough to easily dwarf the cemetery in size and length. The tombstone had a message that read simply "In loving memory of S. Hudson, You will be sorely missed."
S. Hudson… that name was familiar; it was obviously of some significance. I looked around the graveyard for more clues. The only thing of interest was a small shack, off to the side. It had smoke coming out of its chimney, but other then that, there was no sign of life. I went to investigate. The porch had a chair facing out onto the graveyard; nothing else adorned the front of the house, no welcome mat, nothing. This whole place was creepy, the silence coming from it was almost deafening. I walked to the front door and reached for the knob, as if sensing my presence the door opened just before I grabbed it. I stared into a dim hallway. Summoning up the remanet's of my courage, I made my way inside. I took a few steps in before the door slammed shut behind me. Startled I tried to force the door back open, but my efforts were in vain. Something wanted me too see what was in here, and I wasn't getting out till I did. I made my way cautiously through the hallway. The only sound was the crackling of a fire. I used the noise as my guide; the hallway was almost like a maze. I had been going for ages and yet still no door.
This was getting impossible; I had been following the noise for nearly 10 minutes and still not one single door. I wonder if I have been going around in circles. I was ready to give up hope, when I finally came upon something. It was a staircase, leading up into an incredibly dark room. I uttered a sigh lent prayer that I wasn't about to walk willingly back into that other dimension, but what choice did I have? I wouldn't be able to find my way back out of the maze I came through. I walked cautiously up to the top of the stairs, each creaking painfully loud as I stepped on them. If something was up there, it knew I was coming now. My head poked through into the room. There was a table, in front of the fireplace. The table had a lot of frames adorned on it, but I was facing the wrong way to see what was in then. I made my way around the table.
The pictures… they each contained a face… but it was impossible to make out any features of the face, it was blurred incredibly. It appeared to be female. There was a large black dot, where the forehead should be, in all the pictures. It seemed odd. I searched the desk for more pictures. As if hitting a trigger, a bright light shone down from the ceiling. Startled I took a step back. The light slowly concentrated itself on a single point on the desk, revealing… a gun? Cautiously I reached over and grabbed it. The gun tingled beneath my fingers, it was surging with power. I felt stronger holding this then even coming out of the life box, the power given from this gun was amazing. Beaming down at my newfound friend, I examined all of it. It contained a single clip, about 17 bullets. Also on it's side it had the initials G. H. Perhaps the previous owner of the gun? Everything in the room was sigh lent, except for my maniacal giggles, noticing this, I readied the pistol. Something has put out the fireplace behind me. I turned slowly, prepared for anything that may await me. What sort of creature stood there I do not know. It had a simple white outline, with a black interior. It merely had a white spot in its throat. Other then that the only distinguishable features you could make out were it's claws. It leapt at me without a sound, startled I let of a bullet. With incredible force, the creature was thrown to the back of the room. I didn't wait to see if it was okay, I ran down the steps.
No longer was there a maze, but a family room. All that was here was a rug, a chair and a window. The chair sat facing out to the window. I took a look out. Huh… someone was out there! I tried to smash the glass, but it didn't make a dent. Helplessly I watched the person through the glass.
"Hey help me!" I called. Furiously I started banging on the window.
Nothing I did seemed to call his attention. He just went on humming his tune… wait that tune… I remember now, it was on the TV before. This is what I saw on the TV before that girl interrupted me. Curious I stood watching. His voice was muffled. It seemed to be because he was crying… Why was he weeping? He had his hands on his face, but he seemed to be looking down at something, what was it that he was looking at? It was a gravestone… It had markings, the same as the large one before, but this one was an ordinary size. Wait something was happening above him, a black light? Yes, that was what it was; it was coming up behind him. I started banging in vain trying to alert him to what is happening. He continued humming still ignoring my cries. I ran to the door on the side of the room, it was locked, I couldn't do anything. I ran back to the window. The black… it wasn't a light… it was a transparent figure… It drew closer, it readied to grab him, it's hands reached for his shoulders… All of a sudden the blinds snapped shut across the window, startled I spun around, in time to catch the same creature as before charging at me. I leapt to the side, landing hard on the floor. I aimed the gun, as it turned to face me.
I pulled the trigger, again sending it flying away. I got up and looked around, for any way to escape. The door had opened! I ran into it. I had gotten back into the same hallway from when I got into this stupid house, the front door was also open and I could get back into the graveyard. Without hesitation, I ran out side. The door snapped shut behind me. My burst of adrenalin and giddiness from my escape didn't last long; I turned around to a familiar and dreadful buzz. The immensely large gravestone was back, and now in front of it lay a TV. I stared at it, I knew now that whenever there was a TV, it would mean pain and trouble. I walked cautiously over to it. The static blasted its way across the screen; hiding what nightmare it would throw at me. I steadied my now shaking hand and touched the tuning knob. Before I had a chance to twist it, the girls face from the first TV appeared on the screen. She had an incredibly evil smile and she was giggling. A small movie replaced her face it was of a large gravestone falling extremely fast and crushing the rest of the graveyard was played. It dawned on me that it was the large gravestone that stood before me. Her face came back still giggling.
"Thirty seconds, until you die."
Her face disappeared replaced by a 30, which took up the whole screen. It soon changed to a 29. I set off into a run; the gravestones that had been a normal size now had changed into large stones that obscured my path to freedom. There was one exit through the gravestones now. I ran through it, suddenly presented with two choices to run to, left or right. I ran left, coming to another choice, right, straight, left, left, dead end!
"Twenty seconds until you die."
I ran back, panting, changing to the right path, a monster! I pulled the trigger as it exploded with a sickening splat. Left again, straight, right, so far so good…
"Ten seconds until you die."
I was in the clear, all that stood between me and an exit box was three of the monsters from back on the train. I ran straight at them, hitting all of them with some ungodly accuracy.
"Five"
I forced myself to go faster
"Four"
I wasn't going to make it!
"Three"
Almost! There is still hope…
"Two"
So close…
"One"
I leapt at the box
"Good bye"
I closed my eyes. Suddenly I opened them again, I was in agony, I had made it! But why was I in so much pain? The gun was gone, and as I examined my body, through the excruciating pain, I found so was my left foot. I screamed on the floor. It was too much, the pain was agonising, I couldn't think properly. The blood was pumping out too much, too fast; I was going to die if I didn't do something… But what could I do? Wait… there was a life box! If I could just gather enough strength to crawl over too it… It was agonising, I couldn't stop screaming, but slowly I made my way. Each second felt like ten minutes, everything was fading; the blood loss was getting to be too much, but by some miracle, I made it into the box, I reached up for the button, desperately trying to hit it… it was just out of reach… almost got it! The button activated. I screamed again as the pain increased tenfold. I held my foot up to my view, and watched in horror as a toe slowly pushed it's way out of the stump. The pain only got worse. I couldn't do anything except scream as inch by inch my foot finally regrew itself. As it finally finished I sat in he life box, still reeling after the pain of the regrowth. I did nothing except sit and cry. |
