The dead were huddled in the corner, staring at me, they didn't need eyes to do that. One of them smiled. I closed my book. I was alone in the room, in the high attic of my house. The rain held an arguement with the window before slipping away to the distant ground. What were they going to do? What would I? I flipped the pages nervously, and the silent corpses were like uncertain candlelight. I can banish them. Back to that page. They were closer, still distant, but much larger to my eyes. None smiled, but all opened their mouth far wider than living jaws could go. I closed the book. They screamed my name, and I escaped by breaking though the window, leaving the untitled book silent on my seat. The pages close themselves as water spills across the floor like a bloodstain.
