In the kingdom of Han there was anxious talk against the kingdom of Zhao; the emperor of Han and the people behind him distrusted the spears of Zhao. However, when barbarians from the north attacked and weakened Han, when they were most fearful of conquest, against Hannish roads ground the wood of wagon wheels supporting supplies and aid, not soldiers.

In this way the emperor of Zhao won the trust of the country he wanted so badly to control. This plan was suggested by the aged son of a high ranking Han official who had been banished from his country for some petty crime. He had come to the emperor's father and begged for an office. The emperor gave it, seeking to use him to find a weak point in the rival kingdom. This began the distrust Han felt for Zhao, which ended with the show of good will and generosity, sending plentiful gifts. This official's son even was given favor and a close advisor position.

The emperor continued his approach of kindness to Han, for in the plan, it would be his son, not he, who would denounce such hypocritical actions and conquer utterly by surprise a so called ally.

The emperor grew old, and died, and left a son. The son of the official also grew old and died and left a son. The son, now Emperor, begins the orders for supplies to be organised.

The official's son's son asks for a meeting, to discuss plans. They meet alone, and talk in whispers. "It is all happening so fast, yet it was begun a generation ago," spoke the Emperor in amazement. "Only could the Han kingdom think over two generations to baffle their enemy. Your father and mine."

The official's descendant smiled and replied, "Yes. It is fitting that the Zhao do as my father suggested, and plan over two generations. Your father sent money and strength from his powerful land to my kingdom just as it was weaker, and you have gathered provisions before gathering troops, provisions which Han troops may easily use as they march through your lands." It was not necessary for the descendant to finish his explanation, for the dagger in the Emperor's heart had stilled his ears before then.

Whack me, slap me, but I thought at the end, Han troops would march through his lands and not Zhao ones...
