I could poke out my ears and sew them shut, for all the good they do. At first I found myself imagining the sounds as I put my feet to task. Police cars screaming judgement as they carry on importantly, perhaps in response to the plea for help that I fancy rang out just before. How many doors barred weeping from reaching my ruined ears? Listening with my eyes. The dogs cannot have voices too loud for their size, anymore.

But lately, all I hear is bloodstained static. The rushing stinking tide that hisses and cracks because it has nothing to say. The television box resorts to static when it has no station to whisper to it from how many miles away, telling it what to say. I suppose this world needs you for it to have anything to say to me.
