He noticed mostly the lampposts, first the one assigned to his friend's house, and then all of its host holding stiff rank over a small street at clouded twilight. This lamp (and indeed all of these lamps) were formed, on a stalk, from the husked abdomen of a corrugated steel lightning bug from some ancient and beastly era. Firstly intent on a bloodied body in this buglamp's sights, he had wondered on the nature of the lamp, that it would make this macabre display with something, he thought, that bordered on a disgusting pride. A recently dead mouse. Someone he knew would have been more upset than he to see it. This time it got to him more than it would have gotten to her. |
