Game Over
By muddasheep, May 13th 2005, 15:40:26

Bad news: I got an email from my host. We've caused a downtime on our server due to our heavy CPU and RAM load. We've been moved to a dedicated server and given a deadline of one week to decide what to do. The choices are: Upgrade for $75 each month or delete the whole webpage.

I haven't made a choice yet. I don't know if IAD is worth 75 bucks a month. I just don't know. I'm sorry that a few pages are down at the moment (IAD for example). Please have patience.

obviously i ' m not impartial, but i do think you should NOT take that financial hit. Obviously you love your IAD project, but maybe we have to let it go, at least for now.

I don't play IAD so i can't talk about that. But i think it would still be sad to see it go.

At Last you have to decide if u want to take that financel hit or not :/

buaaaaaaaaaa that's the worst thing I can imagine...
maybe you could kill IAD for some time, and search for a solution to bring it back...I don't know...I thought the new server would be way more better than the old, do we have such a consumption...
argh...

well here's the email I got

our host once said:

Your site philipplehner.com has been determined to be causing high loads on the server and the cause of recent downtime. It is not suitable for a shared hosting environment and will need a dedicated or semi dedicated hosting solution. We sell semi dedicated servers for $75 a month which come with 200 gigs bandwidth and 20 gigs disk space. You can only host one site off the semi dedicated because you are splitting it with another large site. Our dedicated servers are completely managed and allow for you to host unlimited sites. You can check out the plans for them at http://www.hostgator.com/dedic(...)

Instead of just suspending your site we have moved it to a dedicated server giving you one week to decide what you want to do. You can move it to a new host or put it on a semi dedicated / dedicated server with us. It is your decision to make but we will not be able to host it in a shared environment any longer and at the end of the one-week it will be terminated off the dedicated server.

We are extremely sorry for the bad news but have no choice due to the amount of cpu and ram your site is using and the amount of problems it is causing. If you have any questions please let us know.

Sincerely,
Server stability Team

Maybe, that Chat could move to a Java-based system?
